News | Covid Regulations | Free Belize
Beginning tomorrow at midnight, new and stringent regulations will take effect in Belize due to the rising number of Covid cases and deaths. The nighttime curfew has been moved down to 7PM. Restaurants will only be open for takeout food. Certain sports are forbidden due to physical contact. Some public buildings deemed inessential will close down. On Sundays, the streets are expected to be empty except for emergencies. And the one that has caused controversy: churches have been ordered to close down.
The US military has donated a field hospital with equipment to assist with the Covid situation. Several countries and international travel agencies have posted red-level flags on Belize, warning their citizens about visiting here and restricting entry to those traveling from here.
The "Free Belize" movement protesting the mandatory vaccine which was started last week by a group of modern Mennonites who have left the traditional churches has caused consternation among the more conservative Kleine Gemeinde and Old Colony Mennonites since it does NOT represent them as a whole. The individuals participating in the parade/protest are mainly millennials from evangelical and charismatic groups who have left the foundational doctrines of Anabaptism and now believe in the union of church and state.
Ironically, the black flag with white letters adopted by the "Free Belize" movement is eerily similar to the flags used by Islamic militant groups and other anarchists. The Taliban, Al Qaeda and more specifically the ISIS fanatics. See below.

I am currently working on an article explaining the various responses of each Mennonite group to the mandatory vaccine and to the "Free Belize" rally. It is a rather long article...just saying.
Update: here is the article
